KUZA BIZ
Artisans in Kenya are sourced & hired based on guess work since there’s no way to prove who’s qualified for what work. This has in turn left a trail of injuries, thefts, deaths and other criminal acts occasioned by profession-related accidents , misdiagnosis, lack of training and pure use of the loophole by criminals to exploit people. The hallmark of this menace is frustrated traders where bad conduct of a few taints everyone. The suffering lot is comprised mainly of the women in the industry.
Annually, 500,000 timid teenagers from humble backgrounds are left to their tools with no course of action after their scores in K.C.S.E don’t qualify them for placement in the universities and TVET colleges. This leaves them with the options of the anti-social life or the informal sector at best and limited opportunities in life. 50% of these are girls who then end up in early marriages or nursing teenage pregnancies or in households working as househelps. Introducing these girls to trade in the artisan industry in a more constructive, reliable and sustainable manner could save many of them if not all.
Through the little services we need in our homes and organizations we can help our youth achieve better for themselves and their communities. They are the land’s future.
